Gratitude Can Be Overrated

Don’t get me wrong, gratitude can be a lifeline in certain moments.

When you’re walking through grief, finding something—anything—to be thankful for can help you keep going.🌿

When a health scare reminds you of the fragility and gift of life. When you catch yourself noticing the sunlight on a hard day and realize that hope still slips through the cracks.🌞

In times like these, gratitude grounds us and gives us strength.

Gratitude grounds us and gives us strength.

But let’s be honest—sometimes gratitude is presented like a cure-all cliché: “Just be thankful.”
As if naming three blessings will erase the heaviness of a difficult season.
There are moments when that kind of forced gratitude misses the mark.
When something is weighing heavily, or when life feels cluttered with too many “shoulds” and not enough space, what we might need more than gratitude is release.

When something is weighing heavily, or when life feels cluttered with too many “shoulds” and not enough space, what we might need more than gratitude is release.

Release from the constant pressure to be positive.
Release from harsh self-talk and unhelpful storylines.
Release from the noise that crowds our inner life.

Because here’s the truth: gratitude grows best in uncluttered soil.🌱

Gratitude grows best in uncluttered soil.

It’s not always about adding gratitude, but about making space for it ~ clearing away what’s heavy or false so something genuine can take root.

And gratitude isn’t only for the hard times. Sometimes it’s simply a quiet appreciation for what’s steady and good; the smell of coffee in the morning☕, a friend’s text 💌, a quiet evening. Gratitude can soften the edges of an ordinary day.

So maybe this month isn’t about forcing gratitude. Perhaps it’s about noticing where you need to let go. Because when you do, gratitude tends to show up naturally, not from pressure, but from peace.🌸
