Why Stories Matter

We live in stories. 📖

From the time we are children, stories shape how we see the world and our place in it. Fairy tales teach us about good and evil. Family stories remind us where we came from. Even the funny stories we pass around the dinner table 🍲 help us feel connected and understood.

Stories shape how we see the world and our place in it.

As adults, we continue to live inside stories. Some are told aloud. Others run quietly in the background of our minds. These inner narratives tell us who we are, what we can (or can’t) do, and what’s possible for the future.

Some of these stories are life-giving. 🌱 They remind us of our strength, resilience, and the ways we’ve grown. But other stories can weigh us down—memories of failure, experiences of loss, or words spoken over us that still echo years later.

The beautiful thing about stories is that they are not fixed. We can look at them differently. We can tell them in new ways. We can even choose to stop living in stories that no longer serve us. ✨

Not long ago, a friend shared a simple story about her morning walk. 🚶‍♀️ It wasn’t dramatic—just a few minutes of fresh air, the sound of birds, and the stillness of early light. But the way she described it stayed with me. Her story nudged me to notice my own mornings, to slow down and take in the small, ordinary gifts I might have overlooked.

The beautiful thing about stories is that they are not fixed.

That’s the power of storytelling. Even the simplest story can shift our perspective, connect us, and encourage us to see life with fresh eyes. 👀

So here’s a gentle invitation for you: pause and think about the stories shaping your life right now. Which ones are you grateful for? 🙏 Which ones might be ready to change? And what new story could be waiting just ahead?

Your story matters—not just in its big moments, but also in the small, everyday ways it helps you make sense of life. 💫

Even the simplest story can shift our perspective, connect us, and encourage us to see life with fresh eyes.

If this reflection resonates with you, I’d love to continue exploring storytelling together. Each Friday this month, I’m sharing newsletters with new insights and simple reflection prompts to help you pause and notice your own story. You can subscribe here. ✍️
